A Wee Bit of Philosophy from the Fairies
We know that a birthday party is a very special day in a child’s life that can create a life-long memory. At In the Company of Fairies, we take great care in every aspect so these memories are joyful, wondrous, and empowering ones!
THE FAERY LAWS
You may know, fairies have some very important Faery Laws. These Laws are quite ancient, and fairies know that following them leads to a grand abundance of love, happiness, and fairy dust. Here are some things that are really important to us about why we do things certain ways, and we thought you might like to know.
One of the Faery Laws is: Have as Much Fun as Possible, and we certainly do that! Children (and, admittedly, grown-ups too…) LOVE fun, and so do fairies. From our games and stories to our grand entrance, we make it as playful as a pack of pixies jumping on petunia petals! Where there is fun, there is life, as our wise Fairy Godmother always said.
A favourite Faery Law is: Create and Express – Dance, Sing, and Play. As much as possible! This brings out joy, happiness, growth, self-expression, and good sparkly things galore.
Our parties are designed to stimulate young imaginations and creativity, and are highly engaging. Children are invited to create the fairy garden that we journey to, and help to make up the story. Perhaps they see a golden crystal crown they put on, or rainbow flowers the size of houses, or maybe they become a Lavender Fairy named Shimmer. It’s up to them!
One parent said of our parties: “I have never seen the kids so engrossed.” Children, when engaged, are fully present, bright with curiosity and enthusiasm, and help to create their own experience. Research shows that this is a very empowering experience for children. Ideas and imagination are nurtured, unique expression is recognized, and a world is created – by the children themselves!
As that rather clever human named Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Games from the Garden
Children love games – and fairies do too! Games are not only fun, but research shows that from games like freeze dance, tag, and simon says, children learn self-esteem, working with others, following guidelines, self control, and complex thought. Wow!
An important Faery Law is: Work and Play Together (this leads to more FUN!). At In the Company of Fairies, we use only cooperative games (fairy-flavoured, of course…) for our Fairy Games. Everyone is a winner and there are no losers – the point is simply to have fun together. There is space for every fairy, and every child, to celebrate!
Stories with Sparkle
Another Faery Law is, Let There Be Light! This means to bring an intention of lightness, love and respect into everything, so it supports the wellbeing of children.
Experts (like human psychologists and fairy godmothers) say that fairy tales teach children how to solve problems in their own lives, how to connect with each other, and about possibility and expanding their views of who they are and what the world is about.
At In the Company of Fairies, we want that influence to be as positive as possible. Our stories are age-appropriate, so children can easily identify with them and become part of the story. They will deal with conflicts and challenges in the story, just like in life, and they solve these challenges themselves. Through this, children can learn self-reliance, resourcefulness, and about helping each other (among other good things!).
While we love Tinkerbell and her fairy world and are delighted to visit it, there are several reasons why we have other Fairies in our part of the Enchanted Realm:
One significant reason is that we love to be who we are. (After all, a Faery Law says: Be Yourself!). We simply aren’t Tinkerbell – we are fairies from a magical realm, and we are visiting to bring the magic and playfulness of the fairies to children (and, well, we love a good party!). We love to create and imagine, just like we encourage children to create and imagine.
By being something different and unique, it also gives children the opportunity to use their imaginations and come up with their own unique characters. And if they would like to be Tinkerbell themselves, they are very welcome to – they have the space and encouragement to imagine whatever they like, and we like that! As one mom wrote to us: “There is so much ‘Disney Princesses and Fairies’ these days and it’s sometimes hard to avoid. What I appreciated the most is that you inspired pure wonder and imagination, and reminded the kids what fairies are all about – magic and fun!”
And, Tinkerbell happens to be a trademarked entity by Disney, but that’s really beside the point… : )
Do you believe in fairies? The truth is, you may, or you may not. We all believe what we believe. And if not, you may ask yourself, Is it healthy to support a belief in your child in something you may not believe in yourself? We feel, Absolutely YES! Why?
Well, there is a special Faery Law: Trust in Magic and Miracles. And, a belief in fairies and magic is a belief in possibility – that maybe, just maybe, the world is more than the current science books say (science books once said the earth was flat!) and maybe there’s more to it than humans yet know. And why not leave the door open for that?
