As Fairies, our goal at parties is to bring the Magical Garden to you, so the children can feel the mystery, excitement, and joy of being a fairy. And you can help! Here are some things you can do to help make it as magical as possible for them:
– Create a sizeable space for the activities. It really helps to have coffee tables moved out of the way, couches pushed to the walls, and a nice carpet or blankets on the floor for children to sit on. We do some dancing and ‘flying’ around, so imagine a line of children all flying through Fairyland, and what kind of space might help that.
– Decorate to make it like a garden or magical space. There is another post on decorating the Magic Garden, and you could put up some flowers, soft lighting, butterflies, or fairy lights. If the party is outdoors, that creates instant fairy ambience, of course!
– It makes such a big difference during the group entertainment portion to have a quiet space where the children can all hear, and the garden can grow and its song be heard. Consider having a drop-off party or asking parents to either watch quietly or chat in another room.
– If boys will be invited, consider inviting a smaller number of them. We have costumes, face painting designs, and parts in the story for them, and they often have a great time (truly!). And, boys are not always into the theme, or would just rather go play with a truck.
If these ideas simply don’t work for your set-up – for example, there are going to be lots of adults or there isn’t too much space – not to worry, the children will all still have a great time! We adapt to the situation, and may focus more on the group movement activities and games with less time on the storytelling, or may not have the flying about. We just want to let you know what we have found is most helpful in bringing the mystery, joy, and magic of the fairies to you, to make the parties the best they can be and so your child has the best time possible.
With Love and Sparkles,
The Fairies
