Children love crafts, and getting their hands into some satisfying activity does wonders for creating instant calm as creativity comes alive. We recently saw a wonderful yet simple wand idea at a party (thank you, Shannon!) and thought you might like it too. This one is great as it isn’t messy to help keep costumes clean.
Fairy Leaf Wand
For some nature-inspired magic, you will need:
– Shishkebob sticks
– Strong tape (like duct tape), preferably in a fun colour like pink, turquoise, or blue
– Curling ribbon, the kind used for wrapping gifts
– Leaves or Flowers (of the silk variety, although real ones might be fun to try!)
– Firm cut-out shapes in things like butterflies, flowers, and fairies
First, take a shishkebob stick, and tape the leaf or flower to the top of the stick. Then wrap the ribbon all around (pink is good!), and secure it at the bottom with the tape. Using small pieces of tape, stick on the cut-out shape. There is probably a real name for this, but I expect you’ll get the idea!
Tie a few long strips of ribbon around the top, and curl them as desired. Children can also decorate the shape with stickers or small stick-on jewels.
You can also tie some strips of ribbon at the bottom if desired. You could have several colours of ribbon for some variety, and small jewels can be added to the ribbon as well.
And, ta-da! A wand fit for a fairy!
